All-around average teenager Tsukune can't get accepted to any high school save one...but on his first day, he finds the rest of the student body doesn't appear average in the least. Best of all, the cutest girl on campus can't wait to fling her arms around his neck! Wait a sec'--are those her teeth around his neck too...? Tsukune's going to have one heck of a hickey when he gets home from Monster High! But does he have a chance in H-E-double-hockey-sticks of raising his grades at a school where the turf war isn't between the jocks and the nerds but the vampires and the werewolves?

Rosario and Vampire was definitely a manga that had been sitting on my shelf for an extended period of time. I finally made the decision that this year would be the year that I would finally pick it up. I'm glad that I did because I found it to be a relatively interesting manga. Rosario + Vampire is a manga that focuses on Tsukune who has been unable to achieve an sort of academic success that would allow him to enter into high school. It's only when his father finds the flyer of a random high school that his family believes he finally will be able to get an education. Unfortunately, nor Tsukune or his parents realize that the school is actually designed for monsters to learn how to blend in with humans.Although he realizes the mistake that is made, Tsukune stays after he befriends a vampire by the name of Moka. Moka is seemingly innocent except for the fact that she likes to drink Tsukune's blood and simply wants to make friends. Their strange, but heart-warming friendships creates some interesting dynamics at the school.

One thing that I will say about this manga is that the artwork is great and it definitely creates a spooky vibe that makes this manga worth reading during the Halloween season. While there is a little fan service, this manga was written in 2008 making the fan service pale in comparison to what's on the market today. It is also great to note the friendship between Moka and Tsukune. They definitely come from two different backgrounds, but they get along great. Tsukune is amazed that a girl as pretty as Moka would be interested in being friends with him and Moka is amazed that she was able to find someone that is willing to be friends with her. They actually make a great duo and I can't wait to see their relationship develop more in future volumes.

The only downside to this manga (it's major since it deals with the plot) is the repetitiveness in which Moka and Tsukune deal with other students that don't like the nature of their relationship. It literally is the same scenarios with different villains and it can get kind of boring especially if the reader is waiting for something different to happen as the chapters progress. Unfortunately I heard that this doesn't change until about the fourth volume. I do plan to continue to read it because I'm excited to see where it goes. If you're excited to check out a new paranormal manga I would definitely recommend giving this one a try.
