Billionaire CEO Alexander Wolfe has spent years putting in 120-hour weeks in the office and adding zeroes to his net worth. But lately, work has left him feeling burnt out and uninspired. Then he is given the chance to go head-to-head with a legendary corporate raider and the man he’d idolized his entire career. He seizes the opportunity, immediately jumping on a plane for Barbados to close the deal in person. If he’s successful, it’ll be the biggest win of his career. He had no way of knowing that meeting a mesmerizing beauty would have the power to derail everything... Calypso Sterling has no time for men who value her beauty over her intellect. Instead, she focuses all her energy on her studies and career aspirations. But when her home—and a closely guarded family secret—is threatened, she’s ready to defend all she holds dear.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I won’t say that I’m not a fan of romance but it’s one of my least read genres and I’m not sure why considering that it’s a delightful genre. When I signed up for this blog tour I thought that the premise of the book sounded good and the cover was attractive. What I didn’t realize that was that this book would become one of the best books I’ve read so far this year.

Cherishing the Goddess is Lucy Eden’s extension of a novella that she previously completed. It focuses on two main characters Calypso and Alex as they navigate their way around a hotel resort. This hotel resort belongs to Calypso’s family and Alex is an investor attempting to buy the hotel from her family. What he doesn’t realize is that the hotel has a significant meaning to Calypso and her family. He also didn’t expect to fall in love with her. The romance between Calypso and Alex is definitely effortless. They just work together and the relationship doesn’t feel forced. This is important to me because I don’t do well with books that include forced relationships or romances that serve no purpose. The beauty that eventual becomes their relationship is extremely important to the plot of the story.

Alex and Calypso are characters that are strong individually; however, they find balance within each other. They calm each other down and they also help each other to become as free-spirited as possible. It’s through their relationship that they realize what’s really important to their lives. I would definitely say that the plot affects their relationship but in a way that's important to both characters. I loved watching them grow and learn more about each other. One of the main aspects of the plot that I particularly enjoyed was a focus on a specific health issue. While I won’t go into details about this issue to prevent spoilers, I will say that it affected me personally and I felt as the though the author did an amazing job of representing its affects on the sick individual but also how the illness affects those who care, love, and support that individual. I’ve been in that same situation and reading passages related to this illness and certain character made me cry a few times.

Lucy Eden was able to craft such a beautiful romance that dealt with difficult topics. I adored her writing style, character development, and how she explored the relationship of the characters. Although I haven’t read anything from her prior to this book, I plan to continue to check out more of her works. If you’re looking for a serious but beautiful romance that handles tough topics I would definitely recommend checking out this book.

Lucy Eden is the nom de plume of a romance obsessed author who writes the kind of romance she loves to read. She’s a sucker for alphas with a soft gooey center, over the top romantic gestures, strong & smart MCs, humor, love at first sight (or pretty damn close), happily ever afters & of course, steamy love scenes. When Lucy isn’t writing, she’s busy reading—or listening to—every book she can get her hands on— romance or otherwise. She lives in New York with her husband, two children, a turtle & a Yorkshire Terrier.
