Happy Fourth of July everyone!! I can't believe that we've already made it to the 4th of July. That's crazy to me. Today I'm here to do a mini review of Snot Girl by Bryan Lee O'Malley

Summary: Who is Lottie Person?
Is she a gorgeous, fun-loving social media star with a perfect life or a gross, allergy-ridden mess? Enter a world of snot, blood, and tears in this first collection from New York Times Best Seller Bryan Lee O'Malley (Scott PilgrimSeconds) and dazzling newcomer Leslie Hung!

Thoughts/Review: I originally received this book for review. I thought it would be interesting to review several new comics/graphic novels for the blog. While the premise of this comic sounded interesting, I will go ahead and say that I did not enjoy it at all. The plot seemed to follow the realm of slice of life which made it interesting; however, it didn't make sense. I was confused while reading the text and I didn't understand where the story was going. There were certain points that I thought I knew the direction of the plot, but then it would do something completely different. The only two things that kept me from rating this entire story one star was the fact that I loved the artwork and that I could relate to the main character. Looking at the cover, anyone would notice that it is heavy in greens which is a continuous scheme throughout the book. It makes everything pop and the artwork really shine. I also really related to the various aspects of Lottie's allergy issues. I'm the same way during the spring time. I can't control my allergies to save my life and it makes things more complicated and frustrated. I can't say whether I will be continuing this series or not. I'm curious in seeing if the plot will work itself out, but with so many other things to read it's not at the top of my priority list.

I would recommend this comic for readers who enjoy:

  • None that I can think of off the top of my head. This is a pretty unique comic.
