Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face. But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him. Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

Waiting on Wednesday, #58: A River of Royal Blood by Amanda Joy

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa over at Wishful Endings She has taken on a similar meme to Jills Waiting on Wednesday over at Breaking the Spine. Since Jill hasn't posted in a while I'm going to join in on this meme. To participate all you have to do is spotlight upcoming publications you're eagerly anticipating. Keep reading to see what I have chosen for this week.

Series: A River of Royal Blood, #1
Publication: October 29th, 2019
Goodreads | Amazon

An enthralling debut perfect for fans of Children of Blood and Bone set in a North African-inspired fantasy world where two sisters must fight to the death to win the crown. Sixteen-year-old Eva is a princess, born with the magick of marrow and blood--a dark and terrible magick that hasn't been seen for generations in the vibrant but fractured country of Myre. Its last known practitioner was Queen Raina, who toppled the native khimaer royalty and massacred thousands, including her own sister, eight generations ago, thus beginning the Rival Heir tradition. Living in Raina's long and dark shadow, Eva must now face her older sister, Isa, in a battle to the death if she hopes to ascend to the Ivory Throne--because in the Queendom of Myre only the strongest, most ruthless rulers survive. When Eva is attacked by an assassin just weeks before the battle with her sister, she discovers there is more to the attempt on her life than meets the eye--and it isn't just her sister who wants to see her dead. As tensions escalate, Eva is forced to turn to a fey instructor of mythic proportions and a mysterious and handsome khimaer prince for help in growing her magick into something to fear. Because despite the love she still has for her sister, Eva will have to choose: Isa's death or her own. A River of Royal Blood is an enthralling debut set in a lush North African inspired fantasy world that subtly but powerfully challenges our notions of power, history, and identity.

I'm really excited for this book simply because it's being compared to Children of Blood and Bone which was one of my favorite novels of last year. I'm interested in the dynamic between the two sisters and how it will all play out through the plot.

Ice Cream Man Vol. 2 by W. Maxwell Prince

Series: Ice Cream Man (Vol. 2)
# of Pages: 128
Publication: December 18th, 2018
Source: Library E-Book
Genre: Fantasy/Horror
Goodreads | Amazon

This critically acclaimed series of not-so-sweet singular stories continues with four more tales of woe, redemption, and unlimited toppings. Collects ICE CREAM MAN #5-8

Once again, I turned to my library for a copy of the second volume of Ice Cream Man. While I was completely and totally in love with the first volume, I didn't enjoy this volume as much. I believe that with the first volume I was okay with the ambiguity; however, I wanted more explanation from the plot in this second volume. The entire story is once again divided into several different miniature stories that attempt to explain some history of the Ice Cream Man as well as some very interesting and horrific stories related to the characters. There are even guest appearances of characters from the first volume.

The writer attempts to give us better insight to who the Ice Cream Man is and how he attempts to alter the lives of those around him; however, I wasn't clear on his purpose. He appears to be come sort of demon but without truly knowing it's extremely hard to understand and/or decipher the meaning of the comic book. I will say that the artwork was better developed and I enjoyed it more than the first volume. The stories were also just as gritty and gruesome and I really enjoyed them. However, I just hope that with the third volume there is more insight to the purpose and development of the Ice Cream Man.
